Robin van Persie will escape censure for his apparent elbow on Yohan Cabaye

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will not be charged by the Football Association over an incident involving Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye on Sunday.

Cabaye went to ground clutching his face after Van Persie had brushed past him towards the end of United's comfortable 3-0 victory at the Sports Direct Arena.

And Newcastle boss Alan Pardew said after the match: "He (Van Persie) has looked at Yohan and he has elbowed him, and I think that perhaps needs to be looked at, if I am honest.

"I actually thought Yohan wouldn't have gone down if he hadn't done something.

"I didn't see it myself, but I have obviously seen it on the replay and it looks like he has looked at him and put his elbow there."

However, match referee Howard Webb did not see the incident when it occurred and, having reviewed the incident on video, he does not feel the offence was worthy of a red card, so no further action will be taken.

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote appeared to stamp on Tom Cleverley's leg during the same match but he will also escape sanction.

That incident was seen by the match officials at the time and so no further action can be taken.
